We are heading back to the legendary Socorro Islands in the December 2026 onboard MV Quino del Mar for an epic week of diving!!
We are chartering the NEWEST boat in Socorro, MV Quino del Mar for a week of diving around this legendary diving location from 28th December 2026 to 6th January 2027!
Diving in Socorro Island is a pelagic lover's paradise. As a lonely seamount far offshore, the island attracts a number of sociable species. Among them are large groups of giant manta rays (possibly the world's friendliest) who love to swim beside you often less than a meter away.
The Revillagigedo Islands (also Revillagigedo Archipelago) are a group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, known for their unique ecosystem. The islands are home to many endemic plant and animal species. Socorro Island is the most diverse in flora, fauna, and topography. The islands lie 250 miles off Baja Mexico’s southern shore.
These islands are a spectacular magnet for the largest ocean pelagic animals in the world. Animals include schooling hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, friendly bottlenose dolphins, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, clouds of jacks and barracuda, tuna, wahoo, oceanic whitetip sharks, and giant, inquisitive manta rays – Socorro’s claim to fame! Whale sharks may be seen during December.
This destination can only be dived by a liveaboard dive vessel. It takes approximately 26-28 hours one way to reach the islands. This is an excellent dive destination for large pelagics due to the islands’ open ocean nature, which sometimes includes currents and choppy conditions. The underwater topography consists of rocky outcroppings, boulders, and some incredible walls.
Passengers are organized into three groups, each led by a divemaster for the dive excursions. Upon receiving a detailed dive briefing, each group gears up, embarks on the panga, and enters the water with a backroll entry. The attentive crew is available to assist divers with any physical limitations they may have. Group dives are conducted, and at the conclusion of the dive, the panga will approach each diver. Weight belts and BCDs are removed and lifted into the boat by the driver, and divers then remove their fins before boarding the vessel. Upon returning to the main boat, the crew will stow the gear and can hand back any cameras to the divers.
